Dear Marilyn,
A disaster has
befallen our world whose proportions are staggering,
and the suffering has been unimaginable. It seems as
if the darkness has taken over. And yet, if we can
for a moment, in the midst of our compassion and
tears, stand back and take another view, there
is much to see. From the view of higher planes of
existence, momentous occurrences are taking place.
The light is
actually increasing its intensity on this planet, and
as it becomes brighter, nothing can stay hidden.
Huge social issues are revealed – issues of poverty,
race,
bureaucracy, survival – as well as examples of
bravery and valor. The light is revealing everything.
The old is being washed away. There is sacrifice of
life that is done to lift souls to another level – and
for those who stay, to clear out their karmas so that
they can live and be free. Now it only seems like
desolation – but from the cosmic perspective, it is
the clearing out. You might call this dark
learning.
The Forces of Transformation
When such
staggering dimensions of suffering take place, there
is a huge purification. What’s been in the way is a
solidity of old forms. The forces of transformation are
at work. Some people need to be shocked awake
from the sleep of their existences. Sometimes great
shocks can open us to something much larger than
our previous reality.
Tearing Off the Heavy Veils
There’s a passage
from a fairly obscure book called The Book of
Mirdad,
that is stunningly profound and that deals with the
ultimate meaning behind our suffering. It’s intense
and extremely powerful:
“Man tears his
flesh in shreds and spills his blood in streams, while
God the Father-Mother lovingly looks on, for He
knows that we are really tearing off the heavy veils
and spilling the bitter gall that blind us to our
Oneness with the One.” (Mikhail Naimy, Penguin
Books, p43, 1971)
So here we are
removing the impediments to the fullest knowledge of
our Oneness with the One. This applies to all types
of human suffering – deaths of loved ones, childhood
abuse, losses of all kinds, and every possible way of
being torn asunder. All can lead to profound
transformation and the opening of our eyes.
The great gifts in
this, in addition to reminding us of
our Oneness with the One, are to remind us of other
blessings we are given in such great abundance.
Most of us have water to drink and food to eat, a
place to call home and a bed to sleep in, higher
consciousness, the caring of one another and much
more. And we have many gifts to
give.
